Export Drawing Views to AutoCAD

Because the program requires special library files to open an Inventor linked file, even if you use the Save As option and save the file to the AutoCAD format, information loss occurs. You can however use the AMVIEWOUT command to export drawing views to AutoCAD.

AMVIEWOUT enables you to export drawing views or an entire layout. However, if the layout contains two or more base views with different scales, the program cannot export them true scale at the same time. It can export them at their current scales, and it can export them true scale separately.

Procedures
To export drawing views of an Autodesk Inventor linked model to AutoCAD
  1. At the Command prompt, enter AMVIEWOUT.
  2. To export the current layout, from the Source list, select Current Layout. To export specific views only:
    1. From the source list, select Select Views/Entities.
    2. Click Select. The dialog box hides.
    3. From the layout, click the drawing views you want to export and press ENTER The dialog box is displayed again.
  3. In the File Name box, type the name of the file you want to export to.
  4. Under Export Options, select the To new external file option and from the adjacent list, select the destination (Model Space or Layout).
  5. In the Save as type box select the format you want to export to.
  6. Click OK.
NoteIf the layout contains two or more base views with different scales, they cannot be exported true scale via AMVIEWOUT at the same time. They can be exported at their current scales, and they can be exported true scale separately; but they cannot be exported true scale at the same time.

DIALOG BOX DEFINITIONS

Export Drawing Views Dialog Box

Source

Specifies the data to be exported. The Current Layout option will export all entities on the current layout. Use Select Views/Entities to select specific views and/or entities that you want to export. The Select button is unavailable unless the Select Views/Entities option is selected in the source field.

Data Handling

Determines how to handle the export data.

Export Views True Scale

Exports views true scale. Any views not already (1:1) are automatically scaled on export (excluding iso and detail views). If two or more base views have different scales, a warning dialog box appears, and the operation is disallowed.

Flatten all Selected Objects

Flattens all source data automatically (including any 3D AutoCAD entities). If this option is not checked, then only Mechanical Desktop objects are flattened.

Convert Circular/Linear Splines to Circles/Lines

Converts splines that project to 2D arcs, circles, and lines.

Generate Preview Image

Provides the choice of generating a quick preview of the exported data. This preview is the same one that is generated for WBLOCK operations.

File name

Specifies the name of the output file. The default file name is the current drawing name plus “views” and an increment.

Export Options

Provides choice of exporting to a new layout in the current file or to a new external file. When exporting to a new external file, the destination can be model space or in layout.

Save as type

The user can specify the format of the new file. The choices include past and present versions of AutoCAD, past and present versions of DXF and AutoCAD template (.DWT)

Binary Format (only available for DXF files)

Exports the file in binary format when exporting in .dxf file format. If this check box is checked (ON), then the DXF Precision check box is unavailable.

DXF Precision (only available for DXF files)

Exports the ASCII data with a specific precision when exporting in .dxf file format.
