Configure Appearance

The dead joint symbol is supported only by the GOST standard.

Because text and leader lines are the most common objects used for annotations, AutoCAD Mechanical provides a single configuration point (the Standard Settings dialog box) enabling you to specify their default properties. These settings are the master settings.

In the Dead Joint Settings dialog box, the text and leader settings default to “By NameOfCurrentDraftingStandard.” If you modify the master settings, dead joint symbols automatically acquire the new settings. If you do not want dead joint symbols to follow the master settings, override the text height and select a specific value.

Commands
Dead Joint Settings dialog box

Use this dialog box to specify the defaults settings of dead joint symbols, for the current drafting standard.

Revision

Displays most recent revision of the standard with which this symbol complies.

Leader

Arrowhead

Specifies the type of the leader arrowhead. When the arrowhead is set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, it acquires the arrowhead from the master settings of the current drafting standard. If the master setting changes, the arrowheads for all dead joint symbols that are set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard change automatically.

Arrow size

Specifies the size of the leader arrowhead. When the arrow size is set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, it acquires the arrow size from the master settings of the current drafting standard. If the master setting changes, the arrow size for all dead joint symbols based on the current drafting standard changes automatically.

Color

Specifies the color of the leader. When the leader color is set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, it acquires the color from the master settings of the current drafting standard. If the master setting changes, the leader color of all dead joint symbols based on the current drafting standard changes automatically.

Text

Height

Specifies the text height for symbol text. When the height is set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, it acquires the text height from the master settings of the current drafting standard. If the master setting changes, the text height of all dead joint symbols based on the current drafting standard changes automatically.

If the current standard is a custom standard, you can specify a non-standard text height. If not, the AutoCAD Mechanical restricts you to selecting a value from the list.

Color

Specifies the color of symbol text. When the text color is set to ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, it acquires the color from the master settings of the current drafting standard. If the master setting changes, the text color of all dead joint symbols based on the current drafting standard changes automatically.

NoteIf the text height changes, the color automatically changes to the default color corresponding to that text height. Text object colors are set from the Object Property Settings dialog box.

Restore Defaults

Returns all values to the default values for the current standard.

Standard Settings dialog box

Sets up master settings for the current drafting standard. The elements of the standard that have their settings configured as ByNameOfCurrentDraftingStandard, automatically acquire their settings from this dialog box.

Dimension link

Link to dimension style

Links the text and leader settings to a dimension style, so that dimension styles are controlled by the drafting standard. Any change you make on this dialog box is applied to the linked dimension style. Any change you make to the linked dimension style is applied back to the text and leader settings.

When this option is selected, you can specify non-standard text heights.

Link to leader dimension style only

Restricts linking of dimension styles to the Leader dimension sub-style. Hence changes to text and leader settings are applied only to the Leader sub-style.

If this option is not selected, you link to the base dimension style. Changes to the base dimension style are automatically applied to all sub-styles, unless that setting is overridden in the sub-style. This means that if you modify the text and leader settings in this dialog box, the change is applied across all sub-styles, unless the settings are explicitly overridden in the sub-style.

Style

Displays the name of the dimension style to which leader and text settings are linked.

Text

Style

Sets the text style for use with all annotations. This setting is controlled by the drafting standard. Hence this setting can be changed only if the current drafting standard is a custom drafting standard or if the text and leader settings are linked to a dimension style.

Base height

Sets the text height to use as the base height for annotation text. If the Link to dimension style check box is selected, or if the current drafting standard is a custom drafting standard, you can specify non-standard text heights. If not, you can only select the standard text heights that are available on the list.

By default, all symbols use the base text height for symbol text. Annotations such as annotation view labels, section line labels, detail view labels and balloons, use a text height that is one size larger than the base height.

Color

Sets the color for the text category selected for base text. If you click Select Color (at the bottom of the Color list), the Select Color dialog box appears. You can also enter a color name or number.

Leader

Arrowhead

Sets the default leader arrowhead type for all annotations.

Arrow size

Sets the default leader arrowhead size for all annotations.

Color

Displays and sets the leader color for all annotations. If you click Select Color (at the bottom of the Color list), the Select Color dialog box appears. You can also enter a color name or number. If the Link to dimension style check box is selected, this setting affects the dimension line and extension line colors.

Symbols

List attach point

Sets the default attachment point for lists such as parts lists and hole charts, which are controlled by the drafting standard.

Color

Sets the color for all symbol geometry. If you click Select Color (at the bottom of the Color list), the Select Color dialog box appears. You can also enter a color name or number.

Object Properties

Let AutoCAD Mechanical manage object properties

Specifies that all objects created using AutoCAD Mechanical commands are automatically assigned properties as specified in the Object Properties Settings dialog box.

Settings

Displays the Object Property Settings dialog box, which enables you to pre configure the settings of all objects created using AutoCAD Mechanical commands.

Projection angle

Projection angle for drawing views:

Specifies the projection angle to use when generating drawing views and shaft generator views.

Restore Defaults

Returns all values to the default values for the current standard.
